This picture shows how a simple corniceceiling rose and picture rail moulding, can transform a room.  Wm. Boyle has a wide range of period mouldings to choose from to help you create your own look.

The use of a picture rail helps break up a tall ceiling height when combined with a cornice or coving.  Simply position the picture rail to required height below cornice then paint all one colour to give the illusion of one cornice.

PICTURE RAIL HEIGHT

In order to create the perfect blend and flow between the wall, cornice and ceiling it is best to fit the picture rail either 300mm or 500mm from the ceiling. These measurements generally depend on the height of the room. Usually the higher the room, the greater the distance the picture rail is from the ceiling. For a standard 8-foot tall ceiling, the picture rail height should be 300mm from the ceiling for the most effective finish, however there is no set standard so go with whatever you feel would look best for your space and aesthetic style.
